'The Last Bread Pudding' and 'The Wedding'
Supported by Basildon District Council and performed in June 200 7 at the Mirren Studio, Towngate Theatre, Basildon.
A Bit About The Plays
The Last Bread Pudding by Nick Warburton.
The committee of an amateur drama group is meeting to discuss their next play. Strangely and coincidently, the events that happen at the meeting reflect the ideas put forward by the committee about ‘what makes a good play’ and vice versa.
The Wedding by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall.
‘The Wedding’ is a glimpse at an everyday family making the final preparations for their daughter’s wedding. We see lovable characters, interfering busybodies and the stresses and strains of a family who are preparing the room for the wedding reception the following day.
4 of the senior group also be performed a monologue each.

'Boiled Beef & Carrots' and excerpts from 'Shakers' & 'Bouncers'
Supported by Basildon District Council and performed in June 2006 at the Mirren Studio, Towngate Theatre, Basildon.
A Bit About The Plays
BOILED BEEF AND CARROTS by Tina Jeffree, Michelle Faith and Paul Nagle.
‘Boiled Beef and Carrots’ is a play set during the Second World War and follows the life of the Bennett’s - a family from London. We travel through time from when War was declared to the VE day celebrations, seeing how the family coped with Anderson shelters, rationing, evacuation and the sadness of losing a loved one.
Excerpts from ‘BOUNCERS’ by John Godber and ‘SHAKERS’ by John Godber and Jane Thornton.
It's Friday night, it's disco night time for Bouncers to come alive! In this outrageous and hilarious parody of the contemporary disco scene, four brutish bouncers invite us for a night out on the town. We meet giggly girls, lads on the make, Hooray Henrys and the four long suffering waitresses from the ‘Shakers Bar’ showing a wickedly funny glimpse of the world that lurks behind the plastic palms and Pina Coladas.

Three One Act Plays
‘Streuth’ and ‘Trapped’ by Michael Green (performed by the Senior Group).
‘The Education of Meg’ by June Hornby (performed by the Junior Group), supported by Basildon District Council performed in May 2005 at the Mirren Studio, Towngate Theatre, Basildon.
A Bit About The Plays
‘Streuth’ is a murder / mystery comedy. It is a play that is performed by the St. Stephen’s amateur dramatics group. The performance goes totally haywire, nothing goes according to plan or indeed how they had rehearsed it! ‘Streuth’ is a play that is really ‘over the top’ and crazy and is a crime story which even Agatha Christie would never have dared to write.
‘Trapped’ is a comedy thriller performed by the St. Stephen’s amateur dramatics group. After the Will of an Uncle has been read, the Major and his wife find themselves trapped in their home with cousins Sheila, Freda, George and the family Lawyer, Braithwaite. Suddenly, the room falls to darkness and the relatives are slowly bumped off one by one. Only two remain so who will inherit the Uncle’s estate?
It is said that when one is dying one’s life passes before one. ‘The Education of Meg’ is a tender story about the life of Meg, nearing her one hundredth birthday and dying in a Home. Set in a Senior Citizens’ Home, we travel through time from the present day to various locations in the past as you become completely captivated by the touching, down-to-earth story of Meg.

‘Teechers’ by John Godber
Supported by Basildon District Council and performed in May 2003 at the Mirren Studio, Towngate Theatre, Basildon.
A Bit About The Play
‘Teechers’ is a fast-moving, inventive and highly entertaining play, which evokes life at a modern comprehensive school. It uses the format of an end-of-term play to sketch a drama teacher’s progress through two terms of unruly classes, cynical colleagues and obstructive caretakers until he finally departs for the safer waters of a private school.

The first ever A.S.A. production was ‘Cider With Rosie’ by Laurie Lee adapted by Nick Darke. Supported by Basildon District Council and sponsored by Holmes Pearman in June 2002 and performed at the Mirren Studio, Towngate Theatre, Basildon.
A Bit About The Play
‘Cider with Rosie’ is set in the country between 1917 and 1934 and is a delightful dramatisation of Laurie Lee’s boyhood memories, as fresh and full of the joys of youth as the original.
