About The Third Edge Theatre CompanyHow it all beganIn the summer of 1994, after completing a Performing Arts course at The South East Essex College of Arts and Technology, Tina Jeffree formed the Third Edge Theatre Company with two colleagues. The intention was to create work for themselves and others that became involved with the company. The first production, entitled 'Shakespeare on Trial', launched their Theatre in Education aspirations and after touring the production around various Colleges and Youth Organisations, they were given the opportunity by 'Artspace' based in Grays, Essex to write, direct and produce a play with the young people in their Youth Group. 'Bash' was written through improvisation with the members and the experiences around them. The production was performed at the Focus Theatre in April 1995 and at the Grays one act Festival (May 1995), by the members of 'Artspace' and was a success. By June 1995 Tina Jeffree was running the Theatre Company on her own. However the ideas and vision of the Third Edge were still there. So after recruiting a Director, Actors and a Stage Management team, ‘ Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead’ was performed at the newly opened Brentwood Theatre, Essex, in September 1995. The Third Edge has moved on from their first performances and has enjoyed working with many Actors, Stage Managers and Artistic Directors. The initial dream of becoming fully professional became reality in February 2001 with a committed and strong production and management team in place to continue to build and push the group forward. The Third Edge Theatre Company is now a company of innovative and lively performers, who are no strangers to the trappings of Theatre, be it on or off stage. They have been able to explore various aspects of performing arts branching out into Theatre in Education, Murder Mystery Evenings, Storytelling, Corporate Events and even occasionally, film. What are our aims? The standards and professionalism as set by Tina Jeffree in 2001 are still as high as ever and their reputation for giving high-quality, fun, lively and varied performances across the Southeast is second to none. Their aim is still to create work for those involved with the group but also to use drama as a positive tool, whether that it is to educate or entertain, to the highest of standards. And so as a group they continue to explore and push the boundaries of theatre by trying new ideas, new venues and new projects. They continue to learn and expand and they will do so for many years to come. |
